Autism Outreach for Schools

Vanessa's Blog - September: New School Year

The team at Freemantles Outreach hope that you have had a good start to the new school year. We are looking forward to lots of new opportunities in the coming months, including sleep training, working with ACT, co-producing training with the Hope service and supporting some great autism-focused work at Woking library.  This blog will also be returning with monthly updates on topics around understanding or supporting children and young people with autism.

We are open again for referrals and the referral form is  downloadable from the website. Please bear in mind that the outreach teachers get booked up around half a term in advance, so depending on the urgency of your referral we may organise a pre-visit from one of our outreach assistants. They write less formal reports than the teachers and they don’t meet with parents, but they will be able to give great advice around strategies and interventions to meet your young person’s needs and can play a key role in upskilling your staff. Our service is free for Surrey schools and academies and we are needs-based, so not tied to specific numbers of hours. As per last year, we will be asking to schools sign to say that you agree to abide by our Service Level Agreement. It can be read online here: http://www.freeoutreach.org.uk/Our-Aims-/    If you would like a visit for a child already on our database, then please just drop us an email or phone the office on 01483 545680. We know that a lot of SENCos have changed role (or name!) over the summer, so please drop us a email and we will change our records.

We are looking forward to another year with a packed training calendar and we have added a new session looking at the way autism presents in girls. For more information visit our training page at http://www.freeoutreach.org.uk/training As always, we may choose to add in more sessions if demand is high. If you are interested in training for your full staff team, or for groups of teachers/support staff, we can provide INSET training or presentations in staff meetings. To discuss this please contact your school’s outreach teacher directly, or Vanessa on vclark@freemantles.surrey.sch.uk
